Are you okay?!
Friday, December 28th, 2007This morning I awoke and went about my business getting ready for work.
That is until I received a text message from my girlfriend at work:
“I falded [sic] down the stairs. Boo. I havd [sic] a good bruise though.”
First of all, my girlfriend is smart, she just doesn’t bother to fix errors in text messages. However, it was my reaction that surprised me most. I was quick to call her work to ensure that she was okay. Even though the text message clearly didn’t warrant a huge reaction, the response was without thought.
It’s odd how, after a while, you start to feel the necessity for immediate response to anything even remotely dangerous. This is how I felt this morning. Like a father to a child or something. Well, maybe not so much like a father. I think that that reason I called was to be there in case she needed me or wanted someone to talk to about it. After all, I am all too familiar with how it feels to fall and hurt yourself at work.
All in all, I’m glad the way I responded the way I did. Even though there was nothing terribly wrong. Next time though, I think I will understand a bit more why I did it.
By the way, she’s okay. A bruised elbow. No teeth missing or anything bad like that. Good thing, ’cause I love her.
